Creating More Quiet Space
When you have time to think without interruption, you can create more strategic solutions and creative ideas. When you have enough quiet space, you’re able to boost your overall productivity.
Here are five ways to create more quiet in your life by working outside of your home or your standard office space!
1) Coworking Spaces
Coworking spaces allow you to rent a desk, office space or meeting room in a professional setting.
WeWork is one of the more popular ones, and I really appreciate that they rolled out an on-demand option with an app to register for a day pass.
Regus has been around longer than WeWork. There are Regus offices all over the world, and I'm actually using one now!
Industrious is another option. I have attended several meetings there. They are bright and well decorated. They have water, coffee, and tea as do all the other coworking spaces.
Tedge is a local coworking space in Midtown Miami. I rented a dedicated office space there for a month in 2021 - which was the perfect solution for me!
There are costs to use any of these workspaces, but I definitely see a return on investment for myself. My productivity is really boosted when I can work without the distractions I have at home.
2) Another Space in Your Office
When I was in the corporate world, I worked in an office big enough to have multiple floors, multiple sections of cubicles, and many meeting rooms.
When I was working in my office people knew where to find me and it was challenging to create a block of time when I could work quietly. To avoid interruptions, sometimes I would actually go “hide” at another space in the office! It could be an unassigned cubicle or an open meeting room. I’ve also found it helpful to put a sign on the door saying that I’m in a meeting or recording a podcast.
Do what you need to do! Create that extra little bit of quiet!
3) Your Local Library
At my local library in Montgomery County, MD I’ve reserved collaboration spaces and meeting rooms several times. And it’s free! There are spacious rooms with windows where you can close the door and conduct a private meeting. I've even met with clients at the library!
4) A Hotel Lobby
Believe it or not, people hold meetings in hotel lobbies all the time! If there's a big hotel you frequently pass, go check it out! Take some time to sit down for a bit and see how it works for you.
5) A Community Building
Several years ago, I had a work-from-home day and too much going on at the house. I needed to find a quiet space, so I actually went to a church that was close to me and I was able to work in a quiet room with Wi-Fi.
Do you belong to a church, temple, synagogue, or other religious institution? What about a community group that owns a building?
And here’s a bonus idea! If you have a friend who's going out of town, offer to house sit! It might be a quiet location in which to work!
I hope these ideas have been helpful to you. If you have a secret way to create quiet, please let me know! Send me an email at lisa@everbetter.com.
