Ten Ways Founders and Other Senior Leaders Fail to Lead - Part 4 of 5

Welcome to Ever Better Today: the daily podcast for creating your optimal business, career, or overall life in ten minutes or less. I’m Lisa Conners Vogt, Executive and Leadership Coach and founder of Ever Better Coaching and Consulting. Let’s jump in!

Notes from this episode are below.

Everyone should be aware of how they respond when triggered and how they work best. That takes work! And it takes the assistance of a trusted circle of advisors and peers.

How founders and other senior leaders fail to lead…

#7 They don’t invest in their own development.

  • Invest in developing other team members, but not themselves.

  • Are not aware of current leadership practices and norms.

  • Don’t fully understand the product, customers, and financials.

  • Don’t create or fully understand the strategy.

  • Don’t prioritize their physical health.

  • Don’t address their mental health.

TOUGH LOVE: When you fail to identify and regulate your emotions, your communications and interactions may create a dysfunctional team.

#8 They become insulated and lonely.

  • Don’t create a trusted peer group to cross-pollinate ideas.

  • No trusted circle of advisors.

  • Don’t work with a coach to help them through challenging times and accelerate their growth.

  • Don’t attend conferences with peers.

TIP: Founders should know other founders. Senior leaders should know senior leaders at other companies.
